Between October 28 and November 7, 2024, the Tempus Public Foundation, along with representatives from ten Hungarian higher education institutions, embarked on a mission to promote Hungarian higher education in Indonesia.

The initiative aimed not only to showcase the excellence of Hungarian universities but also to strengthen partnerships and alumni networks. During the visit, the delegation worked closely with the Embassy of Hungary in Jakarta, which played a pivotal role in the program's success.

Connections, Meetings, and Opportunities

The program began with a meeting at the Hungarian Embassy in Jakarta, where the delegation engaged with embassy staff and George Iwan Marantika, Honorary Consul of Yogyakarta, who provided invaluable advice. This was followed by a visit to the University of Gadjah Mada, where the delegation met with the international office and the Director of Strategic Partnerships. Discussions focused on enhancing existing collaborations and exploring new partnership opportunities.

One of the key objectives of the delegation was student recruitment, showcased through a unified Study in Hungary stand at the EHEF Indonesia 2024 student fairs in Yogyakarta and Jakarta, as well as at the Begin Group High School Tour event aimed at high school students. At the EHEF events, the focus was on promoting bachelor’s, master’s, and doctoral programs, while at the Begin Group events, the goal was to popularise one-tier medical, arts, and law programs among the high school target audience. Each event attracted many interested participants, who received detailed information about Hungary, its higher education system and universities, and the Stipendium Hungaricum and Hungarian Diaspora Scholarship programs.

Exclusive Events to Foster Collaboration

The mission included three key events organized by the Tempus Public Foundation and the Hungarian Embassy. The delegation visited the Universitas Indonesia, where they engaged in B2B meetings with institutional partners. This was followed by the Study in Hungary Partner Meeting, providing an opportunity for discussions with Indonesian higher education representatives to build professional networks. The day concluded with an alumni gathering for Indonesian graduates of Hungarian institutions, where attendees learned about opportunities within the Alumni Network Hungary. These events not only promoted Hungarian higher education but also laid the groundwork for long-term partnerships.

New Directions, Promising Results

The Indonesian mission successfully strengthened existing relationships and established numerous new collaborations. The keen interest shown by students and institutional partners highlighted the growing appeal of Hungarian higher education on the international stage. Presenting the Alumni Network Hungary further enhanced the global reputation of Hungarian universities, opening new doors for prospective students and collaborators.

This program marked a significant milestone, contributing not only to the promotion of Hungarian higher education but also to the cultural and educational ties between Hungary and Indonesia.
